Agrippina – Handel

‘Add to this an evidently singable, modern and witty translation by Amanda Holden… and one could say that all the ingredients were in place.’
Classical Source

‘The cast is strong… Amanda Holden’s witty English translation is a another plus.’
The Stage

AH translated the libretto of Handel’s remarkable Venetian early comedy for the production by David McVicar – first seen in Brussels and Frankfurt – when it came to ENO in 2007. The cast included Sarah Connolly, Christine Rice, Lucy Crowe and Brindley Sharrett.

Aria – Per punir chi m’ha ingannata

POPPEA
I shall punish that deceiver
for the bitter pain I suffered
with a fierce and cruel vendetta.
I should never have believed her,
but I shall avenge my lover
with the trap that I shall set her.
